Finnish Epilepsy Association

Finnish Epilepsy Association (FEA) is a national non-profit organisation established in 1969. We support the well-being of people with epilepsy and their loved ones throughout their lives while offering activities, peer support and reliable expertise. We aim to prevent prejudice and discrimination. We work towards our strategic goals of social participation, communality and equality.

There are  21 local epilepsy associations working under the FEA, which have around 6,000 members. The local associations offer information, activities and support to people with epilepsy and their loved ones during different stages of their lives. Together, we form an epilepsy community that focuses on the everyday life and experiences of people with epilepsy and their loved ones.

The FEA is funded by the Funding Centre for Social Welfare and Health Organisation (STEA).

Information and advice

  • The association’s magazine (“Epilepsialehti”) is available in Finnish both as a printed and online version.
  • Our phone services offers guidance in questions related to epilepsy.
  • Family phone service provides families with children with support.
  • Information and support are available through online discussions.
  • Guides, brochures and videos are available in Finnish on our website.

Support and activities

  • Epilepsy associations operate close to you.
  • Events bring people together.
  • Peer support, group activities and courses help you move forward.
  • Peer mentoring provides one-on-one peer support.
  • Kaverikahvilat, i.e. Friend Cafes, are low-threshold meeting places.
  • Nuorten sohvanurkka, ‘Sofa corner’, is a virtual meeting place for young people.
