The FEA also provides rehabilitation services carried out together with the National Social Insurance Institution. There is a special model of rehabilitation course (adaptation training) developed by the FEA. The rehabilitation courses are professionally organised. In training the experiences of other people with epilepsy are used as an important peer support element. About 600 people with epilepsy and family members participate in the courses each year.
The FEA has been organizing rehabilitation courses for children, teenagers, families and adults since 1974. Over 10 000 people with epilepsy and their family members have attended the courses. They have a long tradition in making use of peer group support and providing accurate information and tools for a deeper understanding of epilepsy and supportive services to help one to manage with the condition.
